Well, at least the days are getting longer! 

We have had some warmer days, still, it’s pretty cold, eh!  When it’s this cold, we tend to spend even more time indoors. 

How do you feel at home? 

Make Your Home A Sanctuary!

Here are a few tips - HVAC and otherwise - to make your time at home more comfortable and enjoyable. 

• Refresh Your Linens – You might want to splurge on a new set of linens.  Especially for those extra cold days when all we want to do is stay in bed.  Get the best sleep with comfortable sheets.  There are great materials available that will wick moisture away from your body (No one wants to feel clammy!), while keeping you warm.  
• Tune-up Your Furnace (or replace it!) – Does your furnace clunk on and off?  How relaxing is that?  New furnaces can start at a lower speed meaning that they are quieter and avoid blasts of hot air.   A tune-up might be all that you need, though, if your furnace is around 15 years, or older, it might be in the interest of your pocketbook, and for your home’s comfort, to checkout replacing your furnace.  Plus, Efficiency Alberta and the City of Edmonton are offering a lot of great rebates, right now.  We have lots of great options here.

• Check Your Humidity – If you’ve got a fireplace, that is awesome!  How soothing it is to wind down the day by the fire.  Sweet, right?  Definitely!  Although, remember, this will affect your humidity, which affects a lot of other things!  We have discussed this topic quite a bit!  You can read more about humidity here.  Some people like to create a spa-like atmosphere by using diffusers.  These, as well as some humidifiers, allow you to add essential oils, providing scents to refresh you, scents to stimulate or relax your mind, scents that add to your overall well-being.  Along with the scents, the diffuser/humidifier will also add humidity, which of course has benefits.  
• Refresh Your Paint – Dark can add drama and a coziness – which definitely has a charm in winter.  Light colours can give a brightness and overall sense of cheerfulness that we might need at this time of year.  Why not add a feature wall, or refresh one room and see how you feel?  It’s a great weekend project, especially in the winter, and can go a long way to rejuvenating your home. 
• Change Your Filter – Are you finding that your home is super dusty?  It’s hard to relax in a dusty room.  Is everyone getting sick?  We definitely encourage regularly changing your filter (at different intervals for different filters).  While proper humidity can help, there are also many great filtration options that will minimize and eliminate dust, germs, and scents.  For more options, please click here.
